Every Door Direct Mail

Justin WinterBy · Updated August 28, 2026

The short answer

A USPS saturation-mailing service that delivers to every address on selected carrier routes without a mailing list of names.

Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) targets geography rather than people: you choose carrier routes on a map and every delivery point on them gets a piece, addressed only to a local resident.

It suits neighbourhood-level advertising. It cannot be used to reach a specific person, and it produces no proof of mailing for any individual recipient.

  • USPS Marketing Mail — The bulk advertising class, formerly Standard Mail: cheaper per piece, but it requires a permit, a minimum volume, presorting, and it travels slower.
  • Direct mail — Marketing or transactional mail sent to a chosen list of recipients, as opposed to mail an individual writes by hand.
