Community node — in the n8n nodes panel

Send mail from n8n

The paperplane community node for n8n adds Send Letter and Get Status operations to any workflow — real USPS mail from $0.99 per letter, with a free sandbox mode while you build.

From $0.99 · postage included · no account needed

Instead of n8n's Send Email node

Email is fine until the recipient has to be served, noticed or invoiced on paper. The community node mails the same payload through USPS and reports printed, mailed and delivered back into the workflow.

How it works

Set up n8n in three steps.

Community node — in the n8n nodes panel

  1. Step 01

    Install the node

    Settings → Community Nodes → Install, and search for “paperplane” (n8n-nodes-paperplane).

  2. Step 02

    Wire the workflow

    Drop the node in, choose Send Letter, and map expressions from earlier nodes ({{ $json.text }}, addresses, receipt email).

  3. Step 03

    Sandbox, then go live

    Keep Sandbox on while you build, then disable it. Pay from a prepaid balance or route payment_url to a human.

Copy the config.

Under the hood: the request the node sends

{
  "mail_class": "first_class",
  "sandbox": true,
  "text": "Dear Ms. Alvarez, ...",
  "to": { "name": "Maria Alvarez", "line1": "1 Main St",
            "city": "Richmond", "state": "VA", "zip": "23220" },
  "from": { "name": "Alex Rivera", "line1": "12 Grove Ave",
            "city": "Richmond", "state": "VA", "zip": "23221" },
  "email": "alex@example.com"
}

Check order status (Get Status operation)

GET https://sendpaperplane.com/v1/orders/{{ $json.id }}

Under the hood

The node wraps our open REST API — the plain HTTP Request node against POST /v1/orders is an equally supported path if you prefer raw requests, and covers everything: quotes, orders, and status.

Supported action fields

Every integration maps into the same fixed set of fields, the ones the REST API and MCP tools take directly.

FieldWhat it does
mail_classfirst_class, certified, certified_err (Certified with electronic Return Receipt), or priority
text or pdf_urlthe letter body as plain text, or a fetchable PDF to print as-is
torecipient name + street/city/state/zip, verified against USPS data
fromreturn address, printed on the envelope and used for undeliverable mail
emailwhere the receipt and status updates go — no account required

Or skip the automation tool: ask Claude or ChatGPT

Every integration here sits on the same MCP endpoint agents use directly. Instead of wiring a trigger to an action, ask Claude or ChatGPT to draft and mail the letter. Same mailing tools (quote_letter, send_letter, get_letter_status), same price, same free sandbox.

Sandbox runs the whole pipeline for free and mails nothing. Live sends start at $0.99, one all-in price.

Common questions

Do I need an API key?

No. The API is open; each order carries its own payment (credit balance or a paperplane payment link). Sandbox mode needs nothing at all.

Can I track delivery from the workflow?

Yes — the Get Status operation polls the order lifecycle (screening → printing → mailed → delivered), or set webhook_url on the order to get pushed status changes.

Does it work on self-hosted n8n?

Yes — community nodes install on self-hosted instances, and the underlying REST API is reachable from anywhere.
